Addressing the misuse of of AI in academic writing by UNAM students

  USE AI TO ASSIST NOT TO REPLACE  let AI with research or brainstorming but always add your own thoughts and analysis. Even when AI is involved, humans should be accountable for the outcomes of AI-driven processes. This ensures ethical decision-making, particularly in areas where AI could make biased or harmful recommendations if left unchecked VERIFY INFORMATION Verifying information is critical when using AI or any other tool to ensure accuracy, credibility, and reliability. Don't take AI answers at face value-face check and ensure what you submit is accurate.  ACKNOWLEDGE AI USE If you use AI generated content, mention it in your references. honesty is the key to academic integrity.

Bias and Discrimination Algorithmic bias: AI systems can inherit or amplify biases present in the data used to train them. This can lead to discriminatory outcomes in areas like hiring, law enforcement, banking, and healthcare, where marginalized groups may face unfair treatment.  AI tools like ChatGPT have brought great potential to education, but they are often misused by students for plagiarism and bypassing genuine learning efforts. At UNAM, it’s crucial to implement a balanced approach that discourages misuse while encouraging productive AI use.  This project seeks to tackle the growing misuse of AI in academic writing among students at UNAM. With the rapid rise of AI tools capable of generating essays and research papers etc. there is an increasing concern about the erosion of academic integrity, the devaluation of critical thinking and the potential long term harm to student’s academic and professional development.
